no pies! ...yet.

Mrs. B was absent. This meant two good things about today.

1) Megan & Rachel & I got to lead Lit class discussion, and I got to ask about the ducks and the fish of Catcher in the Rye... and some of those sophomores never cease to amaze me! Like... everything I was thinking but better. I am growing to like that book, but Holden still frustrates me to no end.
2) They couldn't pie the seniors again. Too bad. They're going to do it tomorrow. Problem: I am meeting with the hiring manager at Staples directly after school. Looks like that will be a hat sort of day. Silver Lining: IF they choose to pie me. They made it only 3 seniors again, so there is hope!

Bessstttttt :)

AP Lit test > AP Calc test
AP Lit essays > SAT essays
Elizabeth Barrett Browning > most anybody else*

After school was awesome as well. I did my government homework outside, while throwing a ball for Tag. Then I went to the backyard and alternately read my book while swinging, and chased Tag around the backyard-which-has-yet-to-be-mowed in my bare feet.

*thank you, AP Lit test, for exposing me to poetry! would have been nice to study it... sometime... besides that one month at the beginning of this year.

...speechless...

I got a present for Kristen's birthday.

It was a *little bit* of a surprise.

Okay, so it might have been for my graduation, one month early, but... o.0

No, I'm not going to tell you what it is.

muahahaha.

AP Calc test tomorrow! Ever since I found out I had to memorize any formulas... I mean any... that I was to use on the test, including the integration tables, I kind of gave up on the idea of getting a really good grade and getting 8 math credits for college. Because I literally got through about 3/4 of the stuff I was supposed to for AB/BC Calc... that means all of AB and half of BC. Never got to infinite series, Taylor/MacLaurin, etc. sigh :(
But releasing myself of that pressure/expectation has made my life much better. Yay!
And the weather was pretty today :)

GPAs and such

I got my cast off today!

And I turned in my Literature project!

And I was approached by exactly 4 people who had heard that I'd read the first two Harry Potter books, incredulous that I had liked them. Maddie practically had tears in her eyes. I thought it was great fun.

Doug practically ran into me, when this morning he shoved some Indiana Jones movie into my hands. Apparently I have officially stepped into pop culture. It's a fascinating place. The exchange went something like,
Katie: What?!
Dalvin: What was that?
Doug (to Dalvin): She's never seen them before!
Dalvin: Not any of them?!
Katie: Nope.
Doug (to Dalvin): See?! No wonder she's the way she is!

*eyeroll*

My grandparents are here. I was talking to my Nana about college, and she said,
"Two physical education classes?! There goes your grade point average!!"

haha.

I am in a good mood today.

accomplishments.

That is, absolutely NOTHING. in the Thesis Thursday Dept.

I got a lot of things started but nothing finished... yet...
kinda sorta drives me CRAZY. I like completion, you know? :P

but I woke up this morning after 9 hours of sleep, all on my own, and was actually awake enough to start my math homework at 7 o'clock... ugh. usually a bad idea, but it worked for me this time :)

and got to talk to my dad on the phone; that was nice.

25th...

Today I bought my 25th article of purple clothing.
Not including footwear, headwear, or outerwear, of course :P

It was also the last day of the first full week of school we've had since Christmas break. Stupid snow.

Kathryne

PS- during my Physics test, my teacher put this on the board. awesome. You really have to click on it and see it full-sized. I didn't have my camera today, so he took this picture with his phone and you have to squint a little to read it.

dy2 = you have this memorized
dx2 = you have this memorized as well
deltat = sqrt [if you have dy2 memorized you can extrapolate this]

And then the semi-partial & extraneous word bank... note the Greek.

I love him.

450th post :D

Glad y'all have stuck around through the mundanities of my life.

Things that made me smile (in no particular order; not even chronological):

  • Completing THE MAZE.
  • Not-failing Government test.
  • Not-failing Latin test.
  • Belgian chocolate.
  • Thinking of Europe.
  • Girl-talking at lunch (hey, we confirmed the problem but never came up with a solution).
  • Flyer-making for School Spirit Week.

"Katie, this is a different CENTURY."

Scrabble.

I won! I like winning sometimes.

Also, music practice with Megan and Page and Doug... and sitting in the parking lot with Megan and Doug trying desperately to jumpstart Megan's car... good times.

:')

So, I had an incredibly stressful morning. I said some things last night in my tired state that I regretted... and sent some very incoherent emails to Megan... :P ... and then I dropped my water bottle under the car at 8:40 when I was supposed to be IN SCHOOL and was rushing out of the car and had a 20-pound bag on my back...

and then there was Physics. And usually that class is like GRRRRRRRRR, and today I couldn't help it... I just started crying.
Because seniors are henceforth EXCUSED from the Science Fair!

OH joyous day.

Also, longest-dentist-appointment-in-ever (3 hours) resulted in NO MORE PIRATE TOOTH. hallelujah.

planning

I am looking forward to tomorrow... small group :)
I am looking forward to Wednesday... college interview !
I am looking forward to Thursday... I get to sleep :D
I am looking forward to Friday... NO SCHOOL and Swing Dance! Could it get any better...? (that is, if Christine came back, it could not get any better. But I will bring MRWP :P)
I am looking forward to Saturday... going to see Glass Menagerie at UDel ! ! ! !

As for today, I smiled when the Government midterm I thought was today was made into a take-home, open-book exam due Monday. And the Literature essay I thought was due tomorrow is now due next Monday.

And I fixed my school's blog layout!

And there might be an ice storm tonight causing mass power outage and slick roads. Hopefully just enough for a two-hour delay so we can still have school and small group.

"Larry does not like to have her nails trimmed."

Wrote one of my best essays of the year, perhaps, today. Funny how you can get the most out of a really unenjoyable book.

PS- my mom played Boggle against three of my teachers today (including two English teachers.) Guess who won? Hint: not a teacher.

week in a small school

This week I have been reminded over and over again the wonderful things about a small school... mine, in particular. Let me walk you through my week...
  • Monday, forgot it was picture day. So my Literature teacher traded shirts with me... yes, she wore my red uniform polo and I wore her white oxford that was perfectly matched to the chapel uniform I was supposed to have worn. How many teachers will willingly wear their student's ugly uniform shirts? Not many, at all.
  • Tuesday, was tired and slept through Math and Physics. Because I am in a single-person math class... no make up work, at all! wheeee! :)
  • Wednesday, my Latin class got to bring in blankets and mugs for tea... and we drank tea and played Scrabble. Including the teacher, there are 6 of us, so it was perfect. Now we are making it a pre-test tradition.
  • Thursday, we got out of school two hours early. I couldn't go home until 3 anyways, so for an hour and a half I just hung out with my Headmaster and wrote a blog post on my laptop.
  • Today, I got almost every girl in the school... and every female teacher but one part-time-r... to wear pigtails for PIGTAIL DAY! I love pigtail day. It's the Friday before Christmas break, traditionally.
  • All week, my Girls' Ensemble (which Megan & I get to lead/direct/organize, because of the whole small-school-small-music-program thing) has been doing impromptu rehearsals during lunch and then eating our lunches during 4th period.
Yep. Wouldn't trade it. Concert Monday. I feel sick. But not head-cold sick... more the kind that I can fake/sing my way through; I just feel tired.

I'm actually pretty exhausted...
Feeling weary, and the worst part is that I'm doing it to myself. Physically and spiritually, which is worse.

"You have a soft ear."

Field trip to Gettysburg :)

I Learned...
I do often stick my foot in my mouth. Regardless, Kevin and Dan both eat their feet and ankles on a regular basis without a second thought. And if you prompt them to that thought, neither one seems to see the problem with it :P

rest

Today I have only Physics homework and college stuff. And that makes me happy. And I got to write a blog post on Veloquence :)
So now I will do my Physics and write my third Lafayette essay and then I will sleep. Sleep also makes me happy.
And the scroll button on my computer mouse works now. This also makes me happy. whee.

I Learned...
Implicit differentiation is a lot easier than my Calc 1 book taught it. I would explain, but I really don't feel like it. And nobody would read it.

Rachel's face

"My face is going to be two thirds of Congress!"
best class.
My friends are entertaining. Especially when sleep deprived.
And according to Sparklife, Dan scored, like, 3 awkward points.
According to me... let's just say that that class involved a lot of blushing and wishing I knew NORMAL people, and then realizing how boring that would be.

I Learned...
A college "essay" might mean 250 words, and 1700 characters is not that much space to write.

Kathryne

PS- :))) Everybody come to the Christmas Eve service... one of them, they're at 6, 8, and 10... I get to do O Holy Night, and I am psyched. It's a gorgeous arrangement. Really simple and classic, not overdone or odd like the Point of Grace one. Or maybe I'm just a hymn snob.

unexpected blessings

My Physics teacher surprised the living daylights out of me today.
We were going over some of our work from the past week or so. I raised my hand with a mundane, simple question about a lab report. As he acknowledged my hand, before I could get a word out of my mouth, he said...
"Katie, you can go have a study hall in the library, if you want. You get all of this already."

Shock much?

And then I went to Panera with Megan and Marina, yay! we talked. I like you guys <3
And then we went to Rachel's ballet class, since it's visitors week. I have lots of things to say about that, but am too impatient to type them.
And then I came home to find that ...CHRISTINE AND ERIN ARE ON FACEBOOK?!?

Shock much?

hmmmmdrmmmmblmmmm

That's sort of the noise my day made, alternately at a high fever-pitch of a buzzing fly and the low grumbling of an angry computer.

The Good: had not finished any of my homework last night. got a surprise study hall in Math and therefore finished everything! (because, since I didn't actually have Math, I didn't have to worry about finishing up stupid inverse hyperbolic transcendental ickiness.)

The Bad: It was kind of an anticlimatic day. And my ankles hurt, and my back hurts when I breathe, which I do surprisingly often. And the medley isn't going to work out for chorus, so we're going to copy somebody else's.

The Random:
(defending a guess in Latin for vocab)
Megan: When I think "to protect," I think "to eat"
Rachel: The kids you babysit had better be very afraid...

“I got the Mr. Sunshine award in 8th grade!”

slap happy!

The Good: ohhhhmy, today was just hilarious. Laughed so, so much. About everything. Most things of which should not be that funny. And then singing the rodent song... over... and over... and over... in the middle of Physics class... :P
And going to Panera with neighbor-Megan* :) broccoli cheddar soup = yummmm

The Bad: Have you ever posted something on a social networking site/blog/email/whatever and gone... wow, the only reason I did that was to get attention/create sympathy/inspire awe into the hearts of mere mortals, as my peers tend to be of such? and sometimes you can delete the offending/insecure remark, but other times it must remain in cyberspace and you are forever damaged... ruined... DONE FOR!

The Random: good times in Physics. and second-Math. lol.
I quote Megan: "haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"
no lie.

Kathryne

PS- EEEEEEeeeEEEEP!

*"Megan" with no modifier defaults to school-Megan. The one in my class. The one who has been my better friend** since like 6th grade. The one who makes music videos about rodents. That one. :P

** I cannot have a "best friend" because I have more than one, therefore I do not have a "best" (because that is a singular term) ... so, I have a few "better friends." There will probably be a blog post explaining that eventually.

muahaha

The Good: nice day at school today. not too high-pressure... actually, I don't know if I had any real, structured classes all day.
Math was "independent study" (aka Lit homework)
Study Hall for 2 hours
More study during lunch
Physics was independent work on labs
Apologetics was a debate movie (whose soundtrack was TOTALLY the same as Narnia... I swear...)
Latin was more independent study

The Bad: trying to schedule stuff with Christine :/ life goes toooo quickly.

The Random: Muahahahahaha. ha. ha. (planning and plotting evil things)

The Quotes:
"Pro: folds his towels
Con: 3 foot 4
Pro: has nice teeth
Con: smells bad"
-Kevin

"I have no thoughts."
-Kevin

"I can hear my echo! *fwooooo!*"
-Megan
