day off!

"I'm not really beefy..."
"No, you're more like a rump roast. Er, soft, and tender, and juicy."

:P

My family can be quite amusing.

I was not very productive today. I ought to have been. I'm going to make up for it by going to bed on time and throwing productivity to the wind (although I could get much done in this next hour if I so chose.)

I also made chemical experiments on my hair. That's always fun. And only sometimes results in an explosion. It didn't this time, for which I am grateful.

"You have a soft ear."

Field trip to Gettysburg :)

I Learned...
I do often stick my foot in my mouth. Regardless, Kevin and Dan both eat their feet and ankles on a regular basis without a second thought. And if you prompt them to that thought, neither one seems to see the problem with it :P

weird day

It was long, long, long. Almost fell asleep a few times.

I feel accomplished, though. I finished another college essay, did my Old Man and the Sea reading, and practiced Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence for Sunday.

And then there was swing dance.
Doug is the most hilariously awkward person I know.
Colin's math jokes! <3
And Livi's pepper joke... haha

I Learned...
I feel more awake the day after getting 5 hours of sleep than after getting 7.

story

I smiled at small group tonight when my dad told the story of how he short-sheeted David's bed at the men's retreat... this weekend. I could just see him as a dorm resident in his boarding school, perhaps as a middle schooler, finding the same glee in that "classic" prank.
...and then the same disappointment at his victim's nonchalant reaction, or shall I say lack thereof.

PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!

We politely pardoned the party pooper in purple pajama pants, and she partook of the pile of patiently prepared perfectly pretty particularly petite (racist) papery pale puffy pancakes.

Thus, our morning.

TADA!

(true story. seriously.)

Teenage Girls & Puns

Conversation with my (almost 13-year-old) sister~
Kristen:
Will you let me come when you pick out your wedding dress?
Katie (me): uh... I guess. I don't think that far ahead.
Kristen: You should!
Katie: ...Why??
Kristen: You're a girl! Girls do that!
Katie + Imaginary Rachel: Haha! We aren't teenage girls...

Also!
Went on a field trip to the nation's capital today! Remarking on the metro fare cards~
Megan: Why are there pandas on the front?
Katie: It's so unpatriotic! I mean, pandas are from China. China is communist. Says a lot about our government's agenda...
Rachel: Is that reading a little too far into this?
Megan: It's like... propaganda!
Dan: Or... propapanda!
Everybody: *groan*

Foliage!

Man, you guys... I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in my life as I have this past week or so with my ever-beloved co-junior-classmates :)

Rachel (because I know you're reading this)~ what was it that we were cracking up about this morning in Brit Lit?

Okay, and... so, today in Teachers' Aide we were grading a fill-in-the-blank vocab section. And one of the words was... FOLIAGE ;)

OH! m-m-m-MY!

I know this is ridiculous, but... in trying to find a username for my Twitter (yes, I'm giving in), I found these:

and

...and then I just. couldn't. stop.

Find some AMAZING stuff here, no joke.

For example:
"This peace-loving female ninja is very short and has a thin build. Her beady eyes are lavender. She has blue hair worn in a style that resembles a lionfish's spines. Her preferred weapons are bows. She is skilled in lying. She uses her martial arts to produce spatial disturbances."

"The charmingly confused, overemotional pirate. His dancing eyes are like two amethysts. His hair is the color of an overcast sky. He always wears several amulets."

"This witty male vampire has droopy violet eyes that are like two windows on the evening sky. His luxurious, straight, neck-length hair is the color of obsidian, and is worn in an uncomplicated, precise style. He's got a moustache. He is short and has an athletic build. His skin is white. He has a wide forehead and bushy eyebrows. He can turn into an owl. He can control the minds of the weak-willed. If attacked with weapons made of silver, he will sicken and die. His outfits are usually sapphire."

"Marguerite Glorieux has flowing midnight hair and eyes of radiant hazelnut. She is a master thief endowed with keen night vision. She can be recognized by her rakish scar. No one knows she is the Phantom of the Opera's transgendered son."

You can even have your own ready-made Mary Sue:
"Belle is the protegée of the Phantom of the Opera and the former love of Marius. Her brilliant purple eyes and glossy fiery red hair set off her flawless skin. She is a spunky adolescent and is blessed with a talent for poetry and music. "

"The sunrise-gold-haired, cornflower-eyed beauty known only as Oriane has a secret: not only is she a saucy grisette, she is Courfeyrac's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate! Her streak of white hair and telekinesis set her apart from others."

now, if THAT is not a fun way to spend your evening, I'd like to know what is!

EDIT: also, finding out that you were wrong about a really stressful, slightly-nauseating, nearly-tear-inducing email. Thank goodness for telephones. That made me smile. (love you!)

Stuff. I guess.

Well, the Winter Formal last night went quite swimmingly.

This made me smile because I actually get to eat lunch on Tuesdays now instead of having meetings and sneaking food into the next class.

Question:
When you are wearing a formal dress, sans-pocket-or-purse, people are giving you money for at-the-door tickets, and none of the adults will hold on to it, what do you do with all the money you get until the end of the night so it doesn't get lost/stolen?

Answer:
What do you think?! =D
(Megan cracks me up)
(Christine & Erin, I'm sure you've got this one down... hehe)

Then, I came home from the formal to find TWENTY FOUR unread emails. 22 of them from pretty much the same thread. Oh-so-fun =)

and... hmm... Chemistry wasn't so bad today as I thought.
We're learning about oxidation numbers and other yucky stuff, but my teacher put it into an acronym:
L [oses]
E [lectron]--
O [xidation]

G [ains]
E [lectron]--
R [eduction]

Sooo, Leo (the lion) goes "GER!" because he is big and scary.

Dan, of course, just smashed it all together...
"Leo-ger."
"Leoger."
"L'oger."
"Hey, look, it's a French ogre!"

I felt sick all day (headache, tired, whatever... no biggie because I was out late; it's expected), so I came home and was just going to chill. BUT, a friend stopped by rawther unexpectedly, which was fun. Even though I fell over several times during the visit because I was dizzy.

A Day of Quotes

I *love* quotes.
So, we'll start with some by people I know (grown-up people & peers, that is. So they have no excuses):

"I love your hair! It looks like a bee's nest!"
"It's an INTJ thing..."
"I'm usually wrong, but I have evidence this time."
"Why do I always seem so stupid when there are other people around? I look brilliant when I'm by myself!"

Now, for the "dead people" quotes:

"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort."
-Herm Albright

"What's the good of having naturally curly hair if nobody's jealous?"
-Freida (Peanuts)

“There is no shame in not knowing; the shame lies in not finding out.”
-Russian proverb

Now, for the
Oscar Wilde Quote of the Day:
"Nowadays, people know the price of everything, and the value of nothing."

YAAAAHHH!!!

Youth retreat todayyyy =)))

awesome stuff.

I'm also composing a list of words that are funny in any context, such as:

hedgehog
chainsaw
duck
duct tape
booklet

...and so on.
with these, "make-your-own-joke" is FOOLPROOF!!

...what did I do today again?

I'm honestly blanking...

OH!
duh.

Me & my 2 mateys (classmateys, that is... 2/3) went to a huge, ginormous, AWESOME library in the city. It was cool.

We were talking about stuff on the way back... one thing that one of them said made me almost cry laughing. Discussing how to counter unwanted affection, she said:

"I don't like you. Now leave me alone."

it made me crack up, seriously.

Daddy Date Nite =)

Tonight was my Daddy-Daughter-Date Night (say it with me... awwwww!)

and we went to TGI Friday's. Yum!!!

while we were there, he got two emails through his phone.

Last night, he sent an invitation to a dating couple at church (two separate email addresses) to come to our house on Sunday for lunch. We get the responses tonight (paraphrased)...

"Sure! Sounds great!"
-Him

"We haven't collaborated yet, but it still looks good. I'll be bringing something, probably Italian, that can be prepared ahead and stuck in the oven. He'll be bringing..." (and so on)
-Her

My dad and I had a HUGE laugh about this... we imagined them as spoken responses, probably taking about the same amount of time from the two of them.

(BTW- some of my favorite people in the world, I love 'em!)

Mac beats PC.

Today I visited a college a few hours away from home... it was pretty much amazing. They have a Mac computer lab on the foreign language floor (awesome!).

What made me laugh:
These computers had little yard sale price stickers on them, to the right of the screen. However, instead of a price, these stickers said "CD" with an arrow pointing to the CD slot on the side. Now THAT is funny. My dad and I were laughing about the PC people looking for a sliding tray in a big box under the desk... uh-uh, not so my friend.

Julia & Julie

I went to see Julia & Julie with my family and a friend (whose husband is currently in Namibia at the same children's home we will be visiting in September!) and it was pretty wonderful.
Good movie.
It would push the envelope for PG, but was well restrained for a PG-13.
There were some HILARIOUS moments... but I think the thing that made our day, or at least my dad's and mine, was the Starburst commercial. It was all these contradictions, like Scotch Koreans and supposedly the candy itself, and ended with the albino lifeguard, LOL.

and, of course, I'm still riding high from last night. It's completely ridiculous, but why fight it?

PINK.

Pink is just a lovely color, isn't it?

Anyhow, today after drivers' ed I took my baby sister shopping. Of course, I can't really call her "baby" because she actually can wear clothes from the same stores I shop at.

Such are the times I'm glad I have a sister and not a brother. You can't do makeovers with a brother. You can't go into Charlotte Russe and DEB with a brother and try on every crazy thing you want. It just doesn't work.

And besides it just being fun overall, I got some fairly nice PINK sparkly socks for very cheap. I'm a very cheap person, I think =P
