work!

/not really!

yeah, I had my first day of being an intern. they were really busy today. I was really not, because nobody had time to train me in anything. SO, I didn't really do much...

...except make Oscar a blog! It will document his travels and other adventures :)

PS-- jetlag + chocolate + (unfinished Ted Dekker novel) = insomnia = 4.5 hours of sleep = EW

Book Club!

yay :)
I had my first book club meeting with my telepathic triplets! We went to Panera for 2.4 hours and discussed Jane Eyre... well, for mayyybe an hour of the time. And then we just caught up on life. Talked about Oscar... real teenagers... why real teenagers would not talk about Oscar ;)... modesty... leadership... gender roles... and other things. I love you guys!

ALSO! laptop is now fully functional!

PS- Jane is an INFJ, for the record.

many yays :)

Well. I suppose I could go through my week and talk about things that made me smile each day, but I am far too impatient for that.

Basically:
my grandparents took Kristen & me (& Oscar) on a cruise to Bermuda.
It was gorgeous.

I read Jane Eyre and I totally called 2/4 plot twists.
I read The Bride Collector and there is no calling Ted Dekker.
I am reading The Silmarillion and it is beyond words.
I am then going to read something by John Grisham and then Portrait of a Lady.
I love summer.
My goal is to read two "classics" (aka good literature written before 1950 with 250+ pages) every 3 weeks. Not including my candy reads (see: Ted Dekker, John Grisham, Tim Downs, etc). Sound reasonable? That would mean I'd get nearly 10 really good books in, this summer. LOVE! (unfortunately, this would include 5 assigned reads like Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass... SIGH!)

Quote of the day:
Kristen: I had this dream about the mimes last night...
Katie: WOAH, me too; how weird.
Kristen: We must be telepathetic!!!*

*pun intended

PS- I am getting a laptop! Oh joy, joy, joy!!! It's a Powerbook G4... the predecessor to the MacBook Pro.

dun, dun, dun, dunnnnn!

(er, "done, done, done, DONE!!!")

yes, schoolwork is over. yay!
presentation went pretty well.
class DVD was fun... Oscumentary was a hit.

Oscumentary!

'Tis finished! :D

ALSOOOO!!!!!!

OHMY!!!!
Rachel = amazingness. Princess, you are now christened: "Gagaddess." (get it? Lady Gaga... goddess... ha... ha...)

Seriously, though, the ballet was amazing. I feel a sudden desire to intensify my quest for culture.

As of now I have been to a Shakespeare play, an amateur Shakespeare play, a concert, a mime concert, a Broadway musical, and a ballet.
I have sewn a dress, performed songs in Welsh and English, and painted a poinsettia on a tin.
I have learned Latin and swing dancing.
I have read the epics and the Russian greats, and I've written a 20-page paper.
Now I just need to go see an orchestra and an opera, and maybe an Oscar Wilde play, and my cultured-ness will have covered its bases.
Oh, and I need to learn to waltz. And continue teaching myself the piano. THEN it will have covered its bases, and I can build on everything.

EDIT: I have also been to the National Gallery of Art twice, the National Portrait Gallery once, and the Walter's Art Museum like 50 zillion times.

all the best people are crazy.

Had fun being an introvert :)
I shall need to do it again sometime. Maybe I'll make it a once-a-week deal. It was nice to just be... just to be.

Rachel & Megan & Marina & I made clover crowns today! yay for being feminine! :)

Today, went to see Alice in Wonderland at a SUPERCHEAP theater (I paid $2) with Amy :)
Then we went to IHOP. Everything in me wants to write that "iHop," but I know it isn't supposed to be that way.
Oscar came, too.

We are so cool. We got apple cinnamon cheesecake pancakes with scrambled eggs... mmmm!
Then we divided it up even... and called the calculation perfect love :P (sorry Rachel/Megan; couldn't resist)

Quote:
"You always have something in your bangs... you always have something in your HAIR... it's like a beard, for your head!"
(to Rachel, from anonymous :P)

Dorkumentaries!

yeah. So, I've always wanted to make a documentary. Like, a real one, not just some weird 5-minute school project.

SO.

I now get to make TWO!

First, we are filming an Oscarmentary! aka, a documentary-of-Oscar. My class is going on a field trip on Tuesday, and so we will take Oscar, my camera, and hopefully we will be able to turn out a 10-15 minute presentation :P

Second, I have decided to make a video "Intro to the MBTI." It's gonna be awesome, informative, highly scientific, and made on iMovie. aka, just about as good as you can get on a high-school student budget.

also... IT'S THE WEEKEND!!! EEP!

Kathryne

PS- Saw Sandy! Then listened to Newsboys on the way home... coincidence??

8 things...

Today we had a field trip. To a library. It was awesome. So many things made me smile, like when they lied and told the guy at the taco place that I was allergic to jalapeño peppers to get me a new one sans-spice... :P
(also, going to Christine's, talking to her, seeing the puppies, and learning the lindy hop!)

On the way back, we (my class-- me, Rachel, Megan, Dan) determined that we only ever really talk about 8 things.

1) Literature
2) grammar (especially bad grammar)
3) Myers-Briggs personality theory
4) the televenth grader
5) how busy we are
6) Megan's work/the people at her work
7) movies (especially bad ones, like Another Cinderella Story... really anything Disney-Channel)
8) Oscar

PS- I picked a daffodil and wore it in my hair!
PPS- "scintillate" is an amazing word.

Chemistry! (?)

I get it!! I get it!! Finally!!!

it was funny today, because my teacher (who worked in a hospital before) was talking about how sugar and oxygen turn to energy and "pee"... for a really, really long time. And we are all sitting there trying not to burst out laughing, playing with Oscar to keep our minds off of everything... but then we finally stopped discussing bodily functions and got to do the homework and I got it!!

My teacher calls them "stoky-metric conversions," I just call them "math."

Also, we have decided to call "moles" -- "razzmatazzle-dazzles" from now on.

AANDDDDD!!!! AANNNDDD!!!!

Today is National Grammar Day!!!!

So in Brit Lit we wrote poems about punctuation. We had to pretend to be a punctuation mark.

Here's another (separate) poem I wrote in honor of National Grammar Day:

I understand you really meant what you had to say.
I understand you think your sentence ends better that way.
But all that I can tell is this-- NOT A THING, that's what!
When ev'ry line is ended twice it's never truly shut.
Double periods- that's the problem; morning, noon, and night.
It's not attractive, isn't cool, and truly isn't right.
Did you accident'lly push the keyboard button twice?
Or is it just a part-elipsis, seriously spliced?
It is so indecisive, really. Please make up your mind!
Correct is one, or three, or none: not two of a kind.
I'm begging truly, really, very- fix it, fix it now!
There is no reason to use two; 'tis therefore not allowed.

funny... and sad.

Well, almost directly after my History teacher told us he was going to try to find ways to cut down on our homework load, he assigned us for the week...

(the normal)
chapter 16 of the textbook => 2 hrs
chapter 4 of The Victory of Reason => 1.5 hrs

(the added/insane)
chapter 17 of the textbook => 2 hrs
Document-Based Question essay => 1-2 hrs
Take-home test => 2 hrs

*yay*
(we did persuade him to let us take the test in class)

Also, I graded quizzes... very simple; one-five-word answers... average grade? 20-30%.
That made me grimace, does that count as a smile?

Oh, and apparently the 7th graders REALLY like Oscar, because they now have like 8 of him, in all different colors, and they play with them and talk about them... *so immature* right? (hehe. that did make me smile)

Effervescent!

E-F-F-E-R-V-E-S-C-E-N-C-E ... what's that spell?

ANDEE!
(just kidding... although that seemed to be the general consensus)

Actually, it's more like...

effervescent young people:
vivacious, lively, animated, high-spirited, bubbly, ebullient, buoyant, sparkling, scintillating, lighthearted, jaunty, happy, jolly, cheery, cheerful, perky, sunny, enthusiastic, irrepressible, vital, zestful, energetic, dynamic;
informal bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, peppy, bouncy, upbeat, chirpy, full of beans.
ANTONYMS depressed.

(so... Andee, pretty much)

And last night I was feeling incredibly effervescent after Isaiah 61 (even though they forgot about my solo). We went to swing, I retrieved Oscar from Dan-the-hamster-napper, and Blake spelled effervescent correctly, first try! Didn't dance much, but then again not many people did... And I skipped around, quite a bit. And I did a backbend (with help, lots of it)!

Then. Something quite tragic occurred.

I... went to Christine's house.

*gaspish!*

We ate like two dozen biscotti(s?). We watched Phantom of the Opera. Again. We fed puppies (!!!!!!!). Then we "went to bed." (read: talked for two hours --and before you ask why I'm talking about yesterday, I'm not, this was this morning). Then we did get 6 hours of sleep. Then my mom & sister came and we played with the puppies =)

Smiliest things have to have been...
Blake's spelling triumph
plotting to have week-long sleepovers and stay out late-late at swing and go shopping and learn Russian *nod*
eating PASTA =P

Kathryne

PS- ebullient and scintillating are two other favoritest words of mine.
PPS- I don't generally use these words; I just woke up in the early AM yesterday and that word was in my head. It's happened before, most notably with supercilious and vicissitude.
PPPS- this made me laugh ~

PJ day!

Today has been a true Pajama Day.

I went to school in my lovely plaid PJ pants,
then I came home and played on Photoshop,
and now I'm going to bed, really, really early.

Smile thing:
Today, Oscar learned the hokey pokey =P
also:
I got an email saying we're going to do "Leaning on The Everlasting Arms" in 2/4 Swing 150 tempo =)

!!!!!!!

So, um, I'm really tired and have to go to bed now (early morning; long day tomorrow), but...

I guess 3 words sum everything up.

Celtic.
Woman.
Concert.

(okay, 4)

...AMAZING.

yepppp, lotsa smiles there. HOW FUN. Those ladies sound better live than recorded. "At The Celli" HAS to be one of my favorites.

Daily Oscar update:
I changed all of my email contact-pictures to pictures of Oscar.
They all fit, too... Andee has drama-Oscar (on the puppet stage), Caleb has Oscar-in-a-tree, Rachel has colored-pencil-Oscar, etc.

Kathryne

PS- random/weird smile~ I am completing my journal today, EXACTLY 10 months after I began it (last April 20). Yes, I did that on purpose.

Oscar!! again!!

Idn't he adooorrrrable?

In Math today, Megan found in her textbook another acronym for "sohcahtoa" ... "Oscar had a heap of acorns." AAAHH! The irony and timing was astounding.

Oscar the Wonder Hamster!!

So, I'm not totally sure how this email-posting thing is going to go with this, but I've got pictures!!

(because I'm certain you are all dying to get a glimpse of our wonderful class pet)

Today, Oscar went to school.

Megan Elizabeth!

(Okay, so her middle name isn't REALLY Elizabeth... but mine is and Rachel's is and she felt left out)

Basically, Megan is just cool, and she's also a lot like me. The sad thing is that she is coolest in the ways that she is least like me.

Things Megan did/said to make me smile today:

She bought a class pet! He is a hamster, his name is Oscar, he is yellow, and he is about one inch tall.

"It started with llamas and ended up with my possum relocation program... it's a nonprofit!"

"What are the six tenses of the Latin verb?"
"To glorify God and ... no, wait, that's the Catechism."

"Hey! We don't have that much homework tonight!"

^^that last one made me smile because we have SO much homework it overflowed in my planner into Thursday's space.

-Kathryne

PS~ I am remote-posting via email, because it is now officially Lent and I am off of the internet! I shall be back in April.
