Fridays :)

I. Love. Fridays.

Seriously?

What is better than the feeling that you don't have any pressing need to clean your room or do this assignment or attend this function?
When you choose what you do?
When you can decide whether you want to stay at home and read a book for fun or go out all evening?
...Especially when (b) includes a wonderful rendition of your favorite Shakespeare comedy (Taming of the Shrew) and SWING DANCE and chocolate and people you love.

no place like home...

...except college :)
I so can't wait to leave here.
and at the same time I want to stay here forever.

Either way~
I got to watch TV today! For the first time in, like, 2 weeks :P

...Idiot.

So, today I sat in on a Russian class at the college I'm visiting.
And you'll never guess what they're reading!
...okay, so maybe the title gave it away. The Idiot!! As in, Dostoyevsky, as in, favorite book. Of course, they are reading it in Russian. So I couldn't really participate :(

Good visit so far though!

Kathryne

Perfection.

Yup.

This is my 200th post. And I have 15 followers. This is crazy.
They're such pretty-looking numbers, aren't they?

What has made me smile so far:
-I am going to do an overnight at another college! yay!
-I am going to make this bracelet on the way!
-200 posts! :)

Teenage Girls & Puns

Conversation with my (almost 13-year-old) sister~
Kristen:
Will you let me come when you pick out your wedding dress?
Katie (me): uh... I guess. I don't think that far ahead.
Kristen: You should!
Katie: ...Why??
Kristen: You're a girl! Girls do that!
Katie + Imaginary Rachel: Haha! We aren't teenage girls...

Also!
Went on a field trip to the nation's capital today! Remarking on the metro fare cards~
Megan: Why are there pandas on the front?
Katie: It's so unpatriotic! I mean, pandas are from China. China is communist. Says a lot about our government's agenda...
Rachel: Is that reading a little too far into this?
Megan: It's like... propaganda!
Dan: Or... propapanda!
Everybody: *groan*

Alliteration!

Today, Megan, Rachel, and I went on this awesome alliteration kick.

To give you an idea, it ended with:
"They don't like that she's practically perfect in every particular, so they prefer pointing out her problems!"
(and we were being totally. serious.)

For Last Night

Well, I meant to post last night after dinner.

However.

I went straight from dinner to bed! Yep, that's right... I was asleep by 8:30, giving me a whopping 11 hours of sleep! :D

Okay, the things about yesterday that made me smile...
Well, I went driving. And you all know how I hate driving, so I decided to compile a list of My Favorite Things About Driving.

My Favorite Roads
  • With several lanes all going the same direction~ I don't have to feel bad for not adjusting my speed to the desires of other cars
  • With pretty flowers and/or green things on the sides~ makes the drive more entertaining
  • With no other cars~ do I have to explain this one?
My Favorite Speed
  • exactly 5 mph below the speed limit, regardless
  • around 35-40 mph
My Favorite Highway Exit
That one where you don't have to merge at all :P

...and... um... I can't think of anything else right now.

Andee's Birthday pt 2

So, if you all remember, Andee's birthday was actually April 1.

However, her party was tonight.

AWESOME.

Got to see a gajillion of my favorite people... talked... danced around... talked... ate cake... talked... jumped on the trampoline... talked... etc.

Funniest part of the evening:
Blake & Mark took me home. We pull into my court... and about halfway down we see a figure like a dead person caught in a really, really odd rigor mortis.
Picture: back flat on the ground, arm extended towards our car, legs both straight up in the air. I kinda freak out... but then the figure jumps up and runs to the side.
sigh.
Daniel.
I had a mini "oh-my-what-just-happened" hyperventilation, while Blake and Mark chuckled knowingly.

Dorkumentaries!

yeah. So, I've always wanted to make a documentary. Like, a real one, not just some weird 5-minute school project.

SO.

I now get to make TWO!

First, we are filming an Oscarmentary! aka, a documentary-of-Oscar. My class is going on a field trip on Tuesday, and so we will take Oscar, my camera, and hopefully we will be able to turn out a 10-15 minute presentation :P

Second, I have decided to make a video "Intro to the MBTI." It's gonna be awesome, informative, highly scientific, and made on iMovie. aka, just about as good as you can get on a high-school student budget.

also... IT'S THE WEEKEND!!! EEP!

Kathryne

PS- Saw Sandy! Then listened to Newsboys on the way home... coincidence??

Foliage!

Man, you guys... I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in my life as I have this past week or so with my ever-beloved co-junior-classmates :)

Rachel (because I know you're reading this)~ what was it that we were cracking up about this morning in Brit Lit?

Okay, and... so, today in Teachers' Aide we were grading a fill-in-the-blank vocab section. And one of the words was... FOLIAGE ;)

Latin Class (again)

So, Wednesdays are ICK. I've said that before.

We have:
Math (80 min)
Break (10 min)
History (80 min)
Student Gov't/Lunch (30 min)
Chem Lab (90 min)
Break (10 min)
Latin (80 min)

...needless to say, by the time we get to Latin, we are all tired, loopy, and slap-happy.
Out of that come things like (not in order) :
"Cicero says that teachers sit on their students who have drinking problems and red-yellow eyes!"
-Rachel
"A red-yellow is an orange, DOOFUS!"
-Megan
"I don't see why I have to suffer for Katie's incompetence!"
-Rachel (?)

...and, of course, Megan's drinking problem... *coughcough*alloverhershirt*coughcough*

AND! We got to have a meeting for our Upper School girls' ensemble DURING Student Gov't!!!

AND!!! I get to go to bed now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First time I've been to bed before midnight in over a week :D

Brit Lit!

...is awesome.

Today, we went over my junior thesis some more. My teacher liked it... made her husband/my summer employer read parts.

Quote of the day:
"Katie, I do have a crush on you. It's kind of awkward."
-Mrs. Bond

And, I got to give my whole cognitive processes rant to the class! I am strange, truly.

Kathryne

Monday, April 19, 2010

the stuff we say at school... sigh.

(psssst! it's alliteration!!! :P)

Quotes from today:

"Rachel, if you can't say anything mean, don't say anything at all!"
-Mrs Bond... they're marking up my junior thesis. and I wanted red marks.

"Picking on people is not a good way to make them your friends. It is a good way to keep them your friends."
-Me... speaking on how you only really pick on close friends.

"It's just addling to the rattling!"
-Rachel... tongue-tied, or something. she meant to say 'adding to the rattling,' but it didn't come out like that.

Also, speaking of speaking... Megan & Rachel & I spent the whole Teachers' Aide/Study Period discussing stuff. And it was awesome!
We also decided that we do NOT have 4 INTJs in our class. We actually have...
ENTJ- Megan
ENTP- Kevin
INTJ- Katie, Rachel
INTP- Dan
(that's every NT type! we are so cool!)

...if y'all get weirded out by my constant rambling about nothing, give me a heads up and I will take it elsewhere, like the up-and-coming "Kathryne is a Lunatic" blog.

hum.

today was pretty cool.

Saw Christine!

Delivered Colin's birthday cards! Happy 3-days-early-birthday!

Watched Apollo 13!
...now, they say that that is the only movie that can make an INTJ cry, but it failed me on that count. Also, because Bambi and Swing Kids made me cry. Good movie, though.

Class Rings!

We had our class ring ceremony tonight... that was incredibly awesome :)
I didn't really realize how much I (already) missed them all until we got there and, again, started laughing foliage.

The rings are beautiful. I would show you the whole thing, but... well, internet safety 101, you know. It has a sapphire-- my birthstone!
I LOVE our school motto (Soli Deo Gloria- to God's glory alone), and I got my name engraved on the inside :)

long day.

well, actually, long 3 days.

Wednesday-
SPY MUSEUM!!! AWESOME!!
Also, go to the National Mall at sunset. The Washington Monument with the sun setting... gorgeous. Although, apparently you can't pray on the lawn in front of the capitol building because it is a form of public protest...?

Thursday-
Thrive DC... so cool :)
Children of Mine... even cooler :)
Urban Plunge. Okay, this is where it gets interesting.
-group divided into two teams. Mine: Me, Dan, Mr Rob.
-we are assigned the Union Station for our "plunge."
-we are given $2 each and 2.5 hours.
-we are to find dinner for ourselves and to share with somebody.
-we are to find answers to a bunch of questions about what life is like as a homeless person in DC.
...eventually, we found the McDonald's and a guy named Sam. We ate dinner with him. He was very cool... totally intelligent... and he played ukulele!! (bonus awesome points)

Friday-
we beat the World Vision DC record for most emergency toiletry kits packed in 4 hours! The last record was set by a group of 13 or 14, and we only had 8 people. So it was coolER.
Swing was awesome as well! saw everybody-whose-names-I-am-too-lazy-to-type.

Quotes:
"I want to die on my birthday. I'm going to go to sleep the night before, and wake up dead!"
-Megan

"Katie! Have you seen Rachel's huge biceps?"
-Kevin

Rachel: "Isn't it funny that we only have 'teenage girl moments' over not-teenage-girl-things?"
Megan: "That was kind of creepy... time to go have a moment like that with myself!"

"I'm shy."
-Kevin

"We helped homeless people foliage."
-Kevin

(Kevin got a lot of quotes in... had to make up for his un-presense in our class most of the year)

Cutting... things.

So, definition of my life:
I needed to cut something, but as the scissors were out in the car for some reason, I used my cat's nail scissors instead. It took a while longer, but it worked!

Speaking of cutting things, I gave myself a paper cut with my hair... is that even possible? As one Facebook friend duly noted, you can't exactly call it a "hair cut" (haw, haw)

Then, while I was in the shower, Kristen came and asked me if she would borrow my large, awesome, butterfly hair clip. It went something like:
Kristen: I'm borrowing your butterfly hair clip.
*door closes*
Me: NO!
*door opens*
K: why?
M: It breaks easily.
K: It won't break in my hair!
M: But, Kristen, it breaks really easily.
K: Katie, it won't--
*clatter--bouncebouncebounce*
M: What was that?
K: How much was the clip?
M: Oh, I dunno, like $3-4
K: ...Can I pay you back?

One of the teeth broke off... lol.
She did not borrow it.

Cousin It, Oscar the Hamster, and other things

first off--
I would like to make the point that having thick, curly, side-parted hair is good for more than just fun and crazy hair contests and avoiding eye contact.
It can also hide your eyes completely from your teachers, if you hold your head at the right angle. VOILA! you can now feel free to sleep, even if there are only four people in your class.
(Unless you have a teacher like my Calculus/History/Latin teacher, who tells you to move your hair and calls you "Cousin It")

secondly--
I took Tag for a walk :)
Ran into some old friends.
It was a great encouragement. They were the ones who gave us the quesadilla maker the last time my mom was sick. Of course, that time it was only 10 weeks and now it's been almost three times that...
anyways.
It is also extremely encouraging to receive compliments when you feel kinda like an antisocial, procrastinating, strange, disorganized, frizzy-haired mess!

third--
IT'S OSCAR'S BIRTHDAY!! (he's a rodent, so he has one every 54 days.)

Plotting and planning with Christine, YEP!

ALL of you.

Iiiiiiii, loooovveeee, daayyyyss, liiiiiiike, tooooooodaaaayyyyyy!!!!

I smiled when Christine came :)

I smiled when we talked :)

I smiled when we ate pizza :)

I smiled when we saw Colin :)

I smiled when we climbed the tree :)

And the doorknob!

And ...SPARKLY!!!

:D

(and lots of other stuff... my face hurts from smiling so much today!)

Floppy hat!

I wore my fun hat today.

We then went shopping.

I got a lot of funny looks.

It is incredibly entertaining to wear an extremely wide-brimmed hat and then stare people down as you drive by at 15 mph. :)

Also!
talked to Colin and Christine! And I think David, but I can't be sure... hehe.

Also!
promises of lots of red marks on my thesis to come!

awesome wonderful effervescent lovely beautiful glorious day :)

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.

Today was AWESOME.

No only do I not have my thesis hanging over my head (19.6 pages, completed 10 PM yesterday!), but I also got to spend the afternoon with some of my favorite people ever.

Taught myself 1/2 of the Cyrillic alphabet during Chemistry :)

Pleasantly surprised to see Colin in the car when Blake & Christine came to my school :)
(relevant Megan quote of the day~ "Brace yourself. Then be pleasantly surprised!")

Ate lots of ice cream :)

Talked a lot and listened a lot and sat in silence... for a bit :)

And I am just THRILLED to be alive. Because it's a blessing. All of it. Even Chemistry. And I am thrilled to have some amazing friends who can remind me of that from time to time!

I needed today.

Today was like peanut butter...

...A little sticky, but oh so good :)

First there was the Stretchy Tumor Man in History (actually the hole-punch-er)

And then, in Chem Lab...
"I saw a black Prius with tinted windows... it's like environmental emo!!"
-Caleb

And Courtney came to visit us at school!
And I found out we have a half day on Friday!

Writings and Mornings... LAAAA!!

Today I actually enjoyed the morning!

Both ends!

I stayed up until 2 because I was really not tired at all.

Then I woke up at 7 and was still not tired, miraculously.

That made me happy.
I've been hyper all day.

I reached my minimum page requirement for my thesis! YAYYY!!
(16.5 pages down, and about 1.5 pages of stuff left to say... goodie.)

See other writings of mine at

-especially-

(product of 1:45 AM)

also- today's date is 4.6.10... 4+6=10!!! SO COOL!

Junior Thesis Day!

Andee emailed me this awesome new layout; that made me smile.
(the pride part of me wanted to be able to say "I coded my own layout!" but I have to say I think this one is much cooler than my old one)

Talking and walking with Christine this afternoon was fun; that made me smile.

Also, even though I only wrote about 2 and a half paragraphs between 11 AM and 5 PM, I managed to get my act together and get by lazy butt off of G-Chat and write 2.25 pages in an hour and 15 minutes! :)

woohoo... I'm beginning to get tired of writing this. Is that normal?

Easter Sunday

church was quite awesome this morning. It was cool.
I talked to Andee and was therefore hyper for the rest of the morning, no joke.
And we sang some awesome songs.
Including some clappy ones!

And I did talk to Sandy *nod*

ALSO!
I wore 4-inch heels today. And I thought I might be as tall as Colin (I wasn't). But of course we had to see. Apparently standing back to back with me is kind of funny because there's like an inch and a half of hair before you actually get to my back.
That made me smile.

ALSO!
I found an excuse to wear my big brown wool wide-brimmed hat... it was sunny, I wanted to read outside, and I don't own sunglasses. That was quite diverting.

ALSO!
I think I'm going through a clothing stage... a colorful one.
See, for a while, I wore brown all the time, no joke. Then I went through a green phase.
But now, all of a sudden, I really feel like I want to combine colors like bright purple and salmon pink and teal? With my brown wool wide-brimmed hat? ...why not. It's fun.

home and other impulses

I am home! I am typing this on my own computer! And I'm not even remote-posting from email, because it turns out that Lent ended Thursday! who knew?

Anyways.

Smiley-things...

impulse buys. I bought myself blue mascara from the Dollar Tree just for the fun. And then A Fine Frenzy's CD "One Cell in the Sea." AWESOME! And $6 off of iTunes!

the rigmarole. 'tis pretty much complete. After I know for sure Livi doesn't want an epilogue, I shall upload to Google Docs for y'all.

Mrs Courtney. She's going back to CoZV!!!! that's so HAPPY!

new blog. (don't yell at me; I know I do too much blogging already)
follow, puzhalsta y spasiba! because I won't update as regularly as this.

'tis a wonderful day :)

hehe... on the way back from my second college visit... well, let me restart. My mom brought my dog (awwww).

On the way "home," we had to pass over this huge bridge with one of those grate things in the middle. And as soon as the car stepped wheel onto the grate, Tag's eyes got huge and he was definitely spooked. He wasted no time in crawling up (somehow) into the front seat where he proceeded to sit pretty much ON me in the passenger seat, eyes wide and seriously scared.

And that was funny. There was enough room for both of us (sort of), because it's a fairly large car, but I did move into the back after we got off of the bridge :)

ALSO!

The family we're staying with is seriously musically talented, really truly. And the oldest boy (14) is mixing a CD that his church is entering in some competition run by Vineyard Music. They don't really have vocalists, and nobody will be able to sing harmony, so I get to!!! I've always wanted to be a backup singer :)

(I think it's harder than being a soloist, for sure... have to have perfect pitch and blend and everything... and I get to try! oh, I'm happy! yay!)

ALSOAGAIN!

I got my SAT scores back todayyyyy :)

and I might possibly NOT have to take them again! That would be joyous. Sooo awesome!!!

And I'm in a particularly good mood all around, and I might get to be in a band with Christine and Andee and Sarah and other people... :)

Kathryne

!!!!!!!!

I TOTALLY FORGOT! (and I am aware that I am... 21 minutes late, at this point, but...)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

:)

also, today was great, so, lots of smiling. I met another ENFP/personality-carbon-copy of my wonderful Amy Marie :)
